Tell us about yourself and Ingenico

Ingenico Payment Services (formerly Ogone) offers a complete range of secure payment services. We are an online payment platform (PSP or payment service provider). We process payments quickly and easily, regardless of the sales channel. We strive to simplify the complexity of payments as much as possible using a sole platform that currently offers 150 international and local payment methods.

We help our 160,000 traders to handle, collect and secure their payments and prevent online fraud.

What is Ingenico’s specific role in the internationalisation process ?

Originally from Brussels, we understood and accommodated the challenges of internationalisation very quickly for our e-merchants.
Our strategy is to position ourselves as a global platform with local expertise and resources.

Since each country has its own consumer habits, it is necessary to adapt to their individual payment habits. In this way, we allow our merchants to offer the right payment method for the right market, in order to maximise opportunities in terms of conversion. This is fundamental, and helped us to be recognised as an indispensable partner for assistance with the internationalisation process of e-commerce websitese.

What would be your advice to a company that was going through the internationalisation process?

Analyse difficult issues first, consult the market and examine what already works for other competitors. Speak to different payment providers that are not dependent on banks or financial organisations. The most important trap to avoid is thinking “innocently” that all you need to do is duplicate your e-commerce site in the relevant language to have the same impact. In my view, the local touch is fundamental. You need to immerse yourself in the habits and customs of the country where you wish to establish yourself.

Why are you participating in this webinar?

I think that it is interesting to go into partnership with two operators that complement our work that, like us, are experts on internationalisation, in order to achieve a global outlook on the internationalisation of e-commerce. In addition, it allows us to discuss several different aspects, not just payment, which is where Ingenico comes in specifically in an internationalisation process.
